Kluska Restaurant, Dandenong

Eva is licking her chops in antcipation of some home cooking like in the old country. Yes, its Polish cooking at its best! And in traditional Polish folk custom,  the waitress knocked over the salt grinder when serving the water. "Old Polish custom." She says. "Pigs arse." Says Eva.

By the time we had ordered our entree we were starving and when it arrived there was no time for niceties, let alone a photo. We had shmalz and pierogi.  Shmalz is pig lard, eaten on rye with some sliced gherkin. Beautiful and it gets the healthy heart tick.

For mains, the girls all had beef and pork cabbage rolls. Brian had the beef rolls with beetroot and chips. I had the potato cakes with Hungarian goulash sauce.

Sunday lunch at Epping Plaza

Liz, Kate, Eva and I visited Dudu and took her to the plaza for lunch.

A real treat, indeed. Eva and I had the Cajun chicken salad. Liz had a wrap. Kate had a big bowl of lasagna and Dudu had a spring roll and chips!

Friday night at the golf club house

Caught up with Jan and Peter for a meal at Riverside after pre-dinners at Woods Street.

Too busy eating, drinking and talking to snap images of the tucker.

It's now a set menu of two courses for $22 or 3 courses for $29.

We had a couple of entrées; dips and excellent fried calamari; and a couple of desserts with our mains: Prawn salad, chicken parmas and fish and chips.

And the waitresses were very lenient with their definition of happy hour.

It was a pity that I happened to push a glass off the counter that fell onto their ice sink and then shattered. Oops.

Pizza Point Lonsdale

Saturday night at PL with A&T.
Eva couldn't wait for tucker and has alrwady hooked into the Memsie.
We come a close second with  Scotsman Hill Sauv blanc.

Its like a village.  Tony ran into an old work mate. Eva ran into an old friend from work. Meagan and Don grabbed us as we went past Kelp. And Anne was identified by four ex-PEGS girls.

The pizzas were very good. The curries were very good. We will return again to eat here but hopefully not so much in the one sitting.

400 gradi

Friday night. Pizza nght. Mmmm.

This is no Frankies or The River, mind you. No siree Bob. This is authentico neopolitano pizza. No meat. No pineapple. You ask for it and you're asking for it!

Its a great opportunity to catch up with Julia and Sandro and to see how Peter is progressing with his February Fasting.

Sitting on the curb in Lygon Street in Brunswick is so cool. Cooler than those who were stuck inside on this warm Friday night.  The trams rumbled past and the clowns on their noisy bikes rumbled past. And the girls in their pretty dresses strolled past and they didn't seem to mind one little bit.

Shared a couple of pizzas (eventually) and found out about what Georgia and James have and will be doing.

Entertained by some energetic pizza tossing which, while visually exciting, will never replace a good belly dance like you get at the Turkish restaurants.

We were glad that our pizzas had already been delivered as the ones that were getting flicked around may have been a little tired.

The mains arrived and conversations died as we hoed in (okay, as I hoed in) to some great tucker. The boys had linguini pescatore and Julia and Jan had the pork ragu. Eva had some risotto.

We left around 10:30 and things had quietened down a bit. No rain after some threatening clouds caused some concern given our exposed location.  A good night was had by all.

Sirens

3rd February 2013

For Jan's birthday we visited Sirens.

It is a lovely sunny Sunday arvo and Peter and Eva have committed to February Fast. Which is no alcohol for the month. Fat chance.

The pizza and tasting plate were scrumptious. The amesbury plains sauv blanc was okay but not as nice as the Dusky whatever from NZ.

Lovely seafood salad had by Anne, Jan and myself. Pete and Tony had the steak and Eva had a nice little piece of barramundi. We all enjoyed the crisp chips and aoili mayonnaise.

Because there was cause for celebration we all indulged in shared dessert. Eva and I had the sticky date loaf while the others took part in consuming a warm chocolate pudding.

We all waddled out and came back to Woods Street for a refresher.

A pleasant day was had by all.

Adventures in ikea land

2nd February 2013

Over coffee with Anne and Tony, we decided upon an impulse to visit ikea. Mad impetuous things.

After traipsing around ikea land for a couple of hours, and buying much needed goods, we  finally got out of there and headed home.

We decided to stop for a bite to eat (at 3:00) in Lygon Street.

At Universitta café we had risotto funghi and pescatore or pasta marinara and it was beautiful.
